A few months ago I began experimenting with pastel for the first time, and am totally in love with the medium! Using pastel is the closest thing to playing with crayons that I have found. : ) The sticks capture gesture in a way that brushes did not, for me. My newest adventure is to take my pastels outside, into the great outdoors, and see what I can see. Just did my first plein air painting, titled "Winter on The Beach". The wind was blowing a gale and it was colder than I had anticipated, so I worked very fast and came away with a very fresh little painting!

This is the first of what I refer to as my "Nuclear Color " series...a real departure from my normal palette! Having FUN! I have made another page just to showcase these Bean paintings as they come along. Click on nuclearcolor to see more.
